Citizenship Training Course

This training course provides everything you need to apply for United States citizenship and pass the interview and exam.

The training course has four parts: handbook, audio practice activities, audio stories, and group discussion sessions. Go to the Citizenship Training tab at left to view the handbook.  The handbook was written for middle-level English speakers.
The Audio Practice tab at left includes audio files of practice activities.

During the pilot phase of this project, audio stories or vignettes related to each chapter in the handbook aired on radio stations for 10 weeks in three Arkansas cities.  People listened to the stories in these cities:

• KABF, FM 88.3 in the Little Rock area
• La Zeta, FM 95.7 in Northwest Arkansas
• La Raza, FM 92.3 in the Fort Smith area

Click the Audio Stories tab at left to listen to the audio stories on this website or you can ask your local radio station to air them.  Please credit the University of Arkansas at Little Rock when airing by radio.

Many people prefer to learn in social groups. During our pilot program, individuals participated in group discussion sessions in Little Rock, Fort Smith, and Northwest Arkansas. You can use our lesson plan to lead a group discussion.

You can use this website to learn from home, as a supplement to ESL instructional materials, and in citizenship training classes.  The website contains most of the information you need.  The authors know of a few changes since 2008 when this book was published.

  • Biometrics now cost $85 (Chapter 2)
  • USCIS has expanded the list of documents you should bring for your interview (Chapter 9).  Go to the USCIS website to watch a video that gives a list of documents you may need for your interview.  Your appointment letter from USCIS will also list the documents you need.
  • Appendix 1, Form N-400 has been updated.  Go to the USCIS website for an updated form.
  • Appendix 3, Naturalization Test has been updated.  Go to the USCIS website for an updated list of the 100 questions.
